Biography
Shreyashi Chakdar is a theoretical particle physicist and her research explores model building and phenomenology in physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM), with a focus on neutrinos, dark matter, cosmology, astroparticle physics, and effective field theories related to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.
Prof Chakdar's current research interest lies in Beyond the Standard Model Physics, which she has actively pursued for the past sixteen years, before and since joining the College in 2019. She is particularly interested in addressing the significant and compelling evidence for the existence of dark matter and uncovering the mystery of neutrino masses and mixings.
Over her HC tenure, she has involved many undergraduate students in her research projects in various ways and students have contributed to these projects substantially.
She considers providing research opportunities for students at the cutting edge of science as a vital embodiment of the teacher-scholar model.
In addition to her research, Prof Chakdar is dedicated to advancing diversity in physics. She is the founder and advisor of the 'Women in Physics' group at 换妻论坛.
Chakdar has held various significant roles and positions worldwide, including serving as a Visitor at CERN's Department of Theoretical Physics in 2024, the Secretary of the Executive Committee for the Forum for Early Career Scientists (FECS) at the American Physical Society (2021-2022), a Visiting Researcher at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences (2021-2022). She was named the "Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics Scholar" from 2019 to 2021. The KITP Scholar position, awarded to only a handful of physicists in the US each year, is a prestigious recognition in the field of particle physics.
