Biography
Matthew Gamber is an Associate Professor of Photography and New Media in the Department of Visual Arts at the ̳, where he has also served as the Visual Arts Studio Program Coordinator. His teaching and research focus on archival practices and experimental photography, exploring the intersection of technology and art. His accolades include an Individual Photographer’s Fellowship from the Aaron Siskind Foundation, an Artist’s Resource Trust Grant from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, a Traveling Fellowship from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and a Blanche E. Colman Award.
Gamber is the co-author of Dead Ringer (2024), which explores the divergent paths of vintage photographs, and Matter (2014), an interpretive textbook reimagining Ralph Eugene Lapp’s 1963 book to combine photography with science. Gamber’s recent exhibitions include New Terrain: 21st-Century Landscape Photography at the Worcester Art Museum (2024), The Chisel & The Pencil at Abakus Projects in Boston (2024) and Living Marble at Turley Gallery in Hudson, NY (2022). His photographs have been published in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Vogue and Surface Magazine.
