Political Science

»»ÆÞÂÛ̳ students who major in political science gain in-depth understanding of the American political system, other political regimes, the international system and political philosophy.

Our curriculum starts from the perspective of the inquisitive and public-spirited citizen who seeks a better understanding of the foundations of the American constitutional system as well as alternative political regimes; the roots of international war and peace; and the eternal pursuit of justice, as well as the relation between the good of the individual and the community.

Why Study Political Science?

Through our program, we offer students with the resources and skills required to make informed public-policy choices and contribute intelligent participation to the political debates of our time. Our aim is to equip the student with a degree of political understanding that will remain applicable in their everyday lives far beyond graduation and to help students to become thoughtful, well-informed and ethical citizens of a constitutional, self-governing republic.

Course of Study

Political Science: Major

Political science majors have gone on to have successful careers in local, state and federal government, academia, law, journalism, business, high school teaching, nonprofit organizations, the armed forces and the priesthood. A number have achieved positions of national stature in these fields — including, for instance, President Obama’s first chief speechwriter and the publisher of National Review magazine.
